Entwistle
Update
April 2010
OK, so I
decided not to die (see below). It was a bear faced case of
cowardice and not wanting to miss out on actually seeing LutonAid 6.
So, after talking to Maz (the organiser of LutonAid) and Lucy Luton
(one of the Bear Coat Collective) it's been agreed that I'll be an
AmBEARsadore for LutonAid. It'll be hard work, but I'm the bear for
the job. My first official duty was on the 8th April. I went to the
PDM gig and between bands talked about LutonAid. It was particularly
cool when all of the audience said "Hello Entwistle".
After that I hung around the bar, danced to the bands and let people
come up and talk to me...that happened more as the evening went on
and people were a bit more pi$$ed! All in all a successful night.
I also popped
into the Love Music, Hate Racism show. It's a well known fact that
good bears hate the BNP in particular and racsists in general so I
went on stage and explained why. I think people got the message.
Feb
2010
Please
indulge an old bear for a moment. I say old but I am not sure how
old. I have lived a life. I Roadied for Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock,
crowd surfed when Nirvana played Reading and for a short while I
replaced Roger Daltry as Lead Singer in The Who. That didn’t last
long as the double Entwistle thing was a problem for Pete
(Townsend). Some of this is true, some probably isn’t. When your
brain is made of the same stuffing as your bum fact and imagination
do kinda blur.
Soon
I will die. I have it all planned out. I’ll gather my friends
together. We’ll enjoy a kebab and maybe a drink or two and as my
favourite songs are played (For Those About To Rock by AC/DC, Enter
Sandman by Metallica and Joe Cocker’s
A Little Help From My Friends) I’ll be placed in a tumble
drier set on hot and spun until I’m dead. I will then be cut open
and my vital stuffing removed and burnt, leaving only my skin.
Every
now and then a bear gets the chance to do something bigger and more
important than his own life. This is one of those times. I’ve
loved and been loved but have always relied on others and have never
been able to properly repay the kindness of those who have cared for
me. Now I have that chance.
The
LutonAid Bear Coat Collective will, for the small sacrifice of my
life, give me the chance to give a little back, to repay some of
what I owe for the life I have had. This is a once in a generation
opportunity for a bear like me and one final challenge that I
can’t miss out on. I’ll also achieve a little piece of
immortality and no bear can ask for more.
If
I had an alternative I’d take it. I don’t want to die, I’ve a
lot of life to live but, let’s face it, I’m a simple Teddy Bear.
There’s no paid work that I can do and it would be selfish to ask
for money simply to save my own life....although a Facebook Save
Entwistle campaign with loads of Facebook Friends seeing what
LutonAid does may do the job ;-)
To
my friends, it’s been a blast, keep Rocking and remember this bear
with affection.
Message from Nicola Gussin and Lucy Luton:
Folks we are making a coat out of teddy bears and this will be raffled or auctioned off at Luton Aid this year. But we need you to help!
For those that do not know Luton Aid is an all day festival music festival that takes place each year to raise money for the Pasque Hospice.
We need you to donate a teddy bear! This will be part of the Luton Aid teddy bear coat. We need the name of the bear and a little story about the bear (if you have one) to be part of a lovely collective.
We will take photos of the progress of the making of the coat and it will be on show at Luton Aid 6 for one lucky person to own!
So how do you get your bear to us?
Well Andy at Vinyl Revelations has kindly let us use his shop as a teddy bear drop off point, so you can drop your bear there.Or contact me (Nicola Gussin) or Bekki (Lucy Luton), or Maz!
Address : 1 Barn Court, Park Street, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU1 3ET UK.
(11.00 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Saturday). Closed on Sunday.
All stuffed furry friends no matter how big or small are all greatly appreciated
We look forward to meeting your bears !
Oh one more thing, please let us know your bears name and any stories you may have about your bear. We will be writing bio's for the bears who take part in the Bear Coat Collective. See below the Bio for one of our bears we already have, who is in the photo above.
Julian's Bio
""This is Julian. He used to be a mascot for Cheltenham Over 55's Ladies' Football club. Unfortunately his drinking habit got out of hand and after an unfortunate incident with a hairbrush and two cocktail sausages he has volunteered to redeem himself by becoming part of the Bear Coat Collective""
